Aziz Ansari - Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening

Aziz Ansari, who is on fire right now in the world of comedy, will be releasing his comedy special called Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening in mid-January.  The show will be on Comedy Central for starters and then will be released to DVD.  This is a must have for anyone who enjoys the world of standup.

Here is a skit that Aziz was in from Human Giant.  A very under the radar show.

Blackroc - Nothing Like You

Blakroc is the combination of the incredible Black Keys and an assortment of hip hop artists.  This song features Mos Def, who does a great job, and Jim Jones who does what he does.  The Black Keys are one of todays best bands and the lead singer, Dan Auerbach, is a favorite here at the Duh.  But, as Lavar Burton often says, don't take my word for it.

Must Have Music - Them Crooked Vultures

Them Crooked Vultures are a supergroup formed by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, and Jon Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin.  Today the band leaked their entire new self titled album to Youtube for the masses to hear.  The album sounds exactly like a mixture of its members, with some of each band shining through.  This is an album you will want to listen to a couple of times before it really makes it's impact on you.  This album is all about the riffage and twists and turns.

You can stream the whole album HERE.

Here is a taste of the album.

The Drink Menu: Michelob Golden Light

I was about to talk a whole bunch of shit about Michelob just now.  Anybody familiar with Michelob?  Yeah, it was, at one point, the pinacle of low calorie beer.  Which, DUH, is not very cool.  So anyway, instead of bagging on anything, let's talk about how phenomenal Anheiser-Busch is.  It is good.  Period.  So let's move on.

Michelob Golden Light

By the way, look at the texture on the can.  We're talking entirely perfect grip.  Magic.  Suck like 8-9 of these back and then remark, "It's Friday, bitch!"

Don't forget your Sunscreen!

This post may not jive with Iowa's current weather in combination with daylights savings time - meaning it's getting cold and the sun has gone down for the night by 5:00pm.  You know that it's been a rough day when you get to work while it's still dark and you stay at work until the darkness has returned.  You know, sort of like that rash...pretty annoying.  Jokes aside, the Duh's favorite comedian/actor/genius/damned-good-looking-guy, also known as Will Ferrell, has taken an interesting approach to encouraging donations to his charity of choice that we find to be noteworthy.

Ron Burgundy's maker, Ferrell, has done the exact opposite of the other egotistical maniacs that he has brought to life so easily over the years (Robert Goulet, Ricky Bobby, Jackie Moon, etc. ).  Championing Cancer for College, an organization that awards scholarships for kids that have overcome cancer to go to college, Ferrell has sold over 10,000 bottles of sunscreen for the cause.  Yes, you are right, this is random as hell.

Check out the different flavors, if you will.

Best New Release of the Week - Julian Casablancas - Phrazes for the Young

Here at the Duh Moines blog were all about eclectic taste, in pretty much everything.  If it's good, it's good.  For instance, everyone knows that Jon Gosselin was a really original costume idea for Halloween, but SO WAS BALLOON BOY!  They were both highly original and well thought out costume ideas for cool, straight, all around nice guys.

Today's best release comes from Julian Casablancas, the lead singer of the Strokes and one of the coolest dudes on the decade.  Julian has released 3 stellar albums with the Strokes and he carries the demeanor and looks of a rock star of old.  I compare him to Jim Morrison in some regards, with his deep voice and onstage swagger, when imbibing in the spirits.  In an age of Nickelback, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco and all the other shitty bands that rule the airwaves, we need to go beyond radio to find what is good.  Julian is a talented musician, a cool guy and a hell of a singer.  His singing is perfect in the most imperfect way.  Check out his new album, Phrazes for the Young and give it a few times to sink in.  Get a taste of the album below with the song Tourist.

Monday Music Drop

If you haven't heard of Grizzly Bear, now is your chance.  Grizzly Bear is one of the fastest rising bands of 2009, for good reason, their album Vekatimest is excellent.

World Series Game 5 Tonight

New York and Philly will be going head to head tonight in game 5 of what has been an outstanding series.  The back and forth battling that has been going on in this series has been superb and has kept some people on the edge of their seats.  The same can be said about my Halloween costume last Saturday.  After battling back and forth with myself, I finally decided to go with the Canadian Prom attire.  The Canadian tuxedo is one of the fanciest formal attires ever created.

I will let this Jay-Z video below give you a hint of who were going for tonight.

Turn on the Headlights!

Band names always intrigue me.  As do breasts.  And since we're speaking of headlights, I believe that is an appropriate comparison (remember the joke with the punchline "snake's in the grass, turn on the headlights?"  Maybe that's just me).  Another correlation: their most recent album is called Wildlife.

Headlights, an indie rock band from Champaign, IL is a relatively new group that rocks it out with a 30 year old Casio keyboard and steady, yet playful acoustic guitar.  Their pop rock is exactly what will get you through the first weekend of pheasant hunting season.  Nothing like the combination of feathers, blood, and pop music.

Give 'em a listen.
